Joe Biden Said “Chains”. GOP Says “Racism”.

In what can be described only as an effort to appeal to Black voters without actually paying attention to their own history in racism, members of the Grand Old Party (GOP) are saying that Joe Biden made a racist remark to a crowd of mostly black people yesterday.

“Are you really surprised that I said something outrageous?”

“They’ve said it. Every Republican’s voted for it. Look at what they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing. Romney wants to let the — he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules — unchain Wall Street,” Biden said. “They’re going to put y’all back in chains. He’s said he’s going to do nothing about stopping the practice of outsourcing.” – Joe Biden

Now, the Obama campaign has come out and stated they were using the term “chains,” which is synonymous with “shackles,” a term that the GOP used when describing their desire for Wall Street to not have any regulations whatsoever – “unshackle Wall Street.” Romney says he won’t deregulate Wall Street, but he did say he would repeal Dodd-Frank, which takes us back to regulations that haven’t been seen since FDR, and is kind of necessary considering how banks are prone to do whatever they can to withhold money and grow it only for themselves (see: LIBOR scandal, financial system collapse/Great Recession of 2008-?, etc.). Greed is a mother of a sin, but the love of money is the root of all evil.

Let me remind the GOP that their history of racism goes back to Abraham Lincoln who only freed the slaves because it was politically advantageous to do so. As he told a gathering of free blacks in the White House:

Get thee gone, Darkies!

You are cut off from many of the advantages which the other race enjoy. The aspiration of men is to enjoy equality with the best when free, but on this broad continent, not a single man of your race is made the equal of a single man of ours. Go where you are treated the best, and the ban is still upon you. – Abraham Lincoln (low-key racist)

That paternalistic attitude is racism. He blamed blacks for the war and wanted them to be free and leave the country and go to the Caribbean or back to Africa. The problem with that is that you can’t force a group of people to move somewhere just because you’re living with the consequences of your ancestors’ bad decisions regarding said group of people. Then we fast forward to the 1960s where the Southern bloc of Democrats defected to join the Republican party after Lyndon B. Johnson championed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Those small-minded White people didn’t like the idea of legally being equal to Blacks (or other races), so they left the Democratic party and haven’t been seen since.

We come to today where the presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney (who chose Paul Ryan as his running mate before the convention in order to have Ron Paul not have any say or sway at the convention and become his potential running mate), who fully enjoys the open support of noted birther (code for racist) Donald Trump and is the figurehead of the party of David Duke (KKK member and noted racist White supremacist) is saying that the Obama campaign has reduced the White House and the campaign to mudslinging levels.

Trump: “I’ll handle all the racist stuff for you.”
Romney: “We can start out that way. I’ll take over later.”

The same man who came out with two political ads against Obama claiming that Obama just wants to hand government checks to welfare recipients (which has been proven to be an outright lie) is elevating the campaign, I guess. It’s like Romney doesn’t like it when someone else plays hardball, except that the Democrats playing hardball (except for that ad where the woman was “killed by Bain Capital”) is 98%-100% truthful hardball whereas the Republicans seem to be making up stuff that sounds good, isn’t verifiable, and can be built up to be nothing more than fake outrage at things that don’t exist.

Even ol’ bad-example-of-a-Christ-follower Sarah Palin is weighing in all loudly and incorrectly. (Seriously, why does she matter anymore?) No, I’m not linking what she said about how Hillary Clinton should replace Biden after his comments.

Bottom line: GOP (the party of old, rich, racist white men) has no credibility on the Grand Lecture of Racism being taught at the University of America today or any day. Until they change their approach and get rid of the loud and racist elements within their own party, they will never have any credibility. Until they work with minorities and try to see what they’re going through, how hard it can be for them, and offer the same opportunities and choices that they give themselves, I don’t want to hear any outrage from them about what they think is racism that is not really racism. Birtherism? Racism. Saying that Romney wants the Middle Class to be in chains with no hope of recovery while the rich prosper at the cost of the middle class? Insensitive, but not racist.

I think the GOP is just jealous that they can’t use such racially coded words and get a reaction for Blacks to get to the polls the way that Biden can. They use code words offensively. Biden used it to get the right kind of reaction.

Here’s a tip, GOP, don’t have only white people crying racism at something concerning Black people. That’s a great start. And don’t get any Uncle Toms in the mix, either. That’s just as bad as all-white complainers.

Update: Mitt Romney said that Barack Obama is angry and divisive today. Obama, the first Black president, is angry. We’ll have an N-word from the Romney camp by mid-October 2012, I believe.
