Greed
I Timothy 6: 9-10 – But if it’s only money these leaders are after, they’ll self-destruct in no time. Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after.
One thing I haven’t heard about during this 2012 election cycle is a pervasive problem in this country: Greed. Greed lead to trickle-down economics and America going from the land of opportunity to the land for the rich only. Our upward mobility is stifled now. You have a better chance making something of yourself in Europe or Australia today than you do in America. Greed is leading to us letting business people determine the course of education in this country, which makes absolutely no sense. (“Let’s get public funds for education into our pockets as a private company by making public schools so bad that parents have no other choice but to fork over their tax dollars in the form of vouchers to our “school” which is run by a business or sub-par private institution.)
Greed is leading us to value our own net worth over the rights of the disenfranchised in this country. Greed is the issue. Businesses can’t even do something altruistic without thinking of the money they can make from the activity. This is sad. The love of money is indeed the root of all evil. Al Qaeda won’t ruin America. Liberals or Conservatives won’t ruin America. Gays, Blacks, or Latinos won’t ruin America. Greed will.
