Sarah Palin’s Setup For a Wig-Snatching
Read -> Snert.
Oh, Couldn’t-Tough-It-Out-For-The-Last-Half-Former-Governor-of-Alaska Sarah Palin, you really tried it!
So, Melissa Harris-Perry, a college professor and political analyst who has her own show on MSNBC made an ad for MSNBC’s “Lean Forward” campaign. I think it means instead of leaning right or leaning left concerning political ideology, they lean forward, pressing on to the future. Rachel Maddow has an ad. Al Sharpton has an ad. They all have ads. Harris-Perry’s ad, however, stated that kids are not the sole responsibility of the parents to raise, but the community at large raises them as well and needs them to do well.
What Harris-Perry meant by it, is exactly what she stated. A better-educated young populace leads to a better future for us all. Who would argue that? Who would make this ad about collective responsibility and link it to what Chairman Mao Zedong did in China at the start of the Red Revolution, meaning that Perry is embracing socialism or communism? Why, of course, the political conservative right wing. I have not checked out Michelle Malkin’s Twitter feed to see what wild comparisons she is making, but just reading Sarah Palin’s and Glenn Beck’s responses are enough for me. (I don’t even have the energy to tolerate Rush Limbaugh on this one.) These people sure know how to rile up people for all the wrong reasons.
It’s amazing to me how conservative Republican Christians look for the responsibility for raising kids to lie solely with the parent, but are quick to blame society or their group of friends (of the surrounding community) if their child is a troubled youth or gets into significant trouble doing something wrong. Fighting the Christian fight is a group effort and the church and church community is often called upon (and required to respond in some cases) to group together and tackle life and other things as a unit, which requires more than the parent and child. If Sarah and Glenn were to look back at their own lives, they surely would see how more people than their parents shaped them and helped them grow up well. But I guess they can’t do that while being bored and looking for things to make themselves “mad” about.
Now, I’ve said a lot about it, but I cannot wait until Saturday to see how Harris-Perry goes in. She has a skill for presenting an opinion and backing it up with facts (or just letting the facts stand on their own) in order to snatch a wig or two from someone who thinks they’re cute doing…whatever…is wrong in actuality. Palin made the most noise about it, and is getting covered more than Beck in the media about it. I look forward to seeing Perry go in and let have in the most educated and eloquent way.
UPDATE: Harris-Perry did just that with her reply: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
I hope there is more to come.
