Peep this asinine statement from U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos about the history and contribution of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).:
In the spirit of Black History Month and Remy Ma, the First of Her Name, Breaker of Chains, Destroyer of Egos, Snatcher of Wigs, Mother of Messy Boots Shade who effortlessly dispatched Nicki Minaj on Saturday February 25th, in the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ 2017 via diss track (now available on iTunes and streaming services), “shETHER”, I have a few questions for Secretar…Betsy.
Betsy, you said: “They started from the fact that there were too many students in America who did not have equal access to education…They saw that the system wasn’t working, that there was an absence of opportunity, so they took it upon themselves to provide the solution.”
Are you dumb?
HBCUs didn’t simply start because of unequal access to education. It was unequal because people were denied attending because of the color of their skin. To not say that first and foremost is whitewashing history to absolve your conservative ideology of any historical wrongdoing knowing full well that your people were the ones who disenfranchised an entire race because you feared their success.
Basic Betsy, you said: “[HBCUs] are real pioneers when it comes to school choice. They are living proof that when more options are provided to students, they are afforded greater access and greater quality. Their success has shown that more options help students flourish.”
Are you dumb?
HBCUs were not set up to be about school choice. More options provided to students? THEY WERE THE ONLY OPTION BECAUSE YOUR RACIST PEOPLE DIDN’T ALLOW ANY OTHER OPTION FOR THEM! What “options” are you talking about? Stop trying to peddle your school choice nonsense and your agenda for tearing down public schools, you wack, trifling, disgusting, pathetic example of a person!
Bum ***** Betsy, you said (on Tuesday 2/28/2017): “But your history was born, not out of mere choice, but out of necessity, in the face of racism, and in the aftermath of the Civil War.”
Now, I don’t think y’all understand how bad her a** got (lit up on Twitter and the media on Monday).
Nice walkback! That is a better statement but we still aren’t getting to the real problem – you’re trying to drive your agenda through the wrong vehicle at the wrong time during the wrong (Black History) month and trying to make us all “one America” when we don’t all have the same experience. See, smart Liberals (and smart moderate Conservatives) actually know how to speak to history honestly, even if they have to flinch and be uncomfortable with it, and not try to connect their experiences (or agendas) to histories of oppression of minority and marginalized groups.
But you, Betsy DeVos, never really struck me as being that intelligent in the first place. You’re just very rich and very well-connected and get to treat American children as an experiment to try to instill what you consider values to help bring about God’s Kingdom…which is always subject to interpretation. I think God’s Kingdom would provide lunches to poor kids who often only have that as their meal for the day. Your version of God’s Kingdom doesn’t think that’s required and isn’t concerned about it in the slightest.
Unlike Remy Ma who said she will not lose (and left nothing behind after that diss track but blood and an incinerated corpse of Nicki Minaj), I hope you lose “bigly”, DeVos. I pray to God that all your plans for education in this country fail miserably and that your days as Education Secretary are spent in nothing but disappointment and wasted life time.
P.S. – I had problems with HBCU presidents meeting with Trump in the first place but something about this picture seemed wrong (no, not Kellyanne Conway’s self-serving knees on the couch afraid of so black people in the room with her). Come to find out from Dillard University President Walter M. Kimbrough that the presidents weren’t even supposed to meet Donald Trump. They were supposed to meet with Trump Administration members, mainly Betsy DeVos, and then they got derailed by Trump for that crowded photo opp and their time got cut down significantly and neither Trump nor Pence nor DeVos fully heard their concerns. How did our nation become so sad so fast?
